Many students are taking their finals for the fall semester at their universities and many children are coming out of school soon. While the student’s families are planning their vacations, schools will be preparing themselves for students to come back after the holidays. It is never too late for schools to develop an indoor air quality management plan. I found this topic very interesting because this year in the news, we have heard about several cases about schools having poor indoor air quality. It is important for schools and their districts to make a healthy indoor environment a priority. The IAQ Tools for Schools have been implemented to thousands of schools nationwide. This plan includes step by step action plans to create a indoor air quality management plan and also includes technical solutions for common issues that can be found in schools. According to the EPA website these are foundations that are part of the plan:

The Framework for Effective School IAQ Management: Key Drivers

The Key Drivers provide programmatic strategies to help you develop and sustain school environmental health and safety initiatives, including an IAQ management program. They are:

  • Organize
  • Communicate
  • Assess
  • Plan
  • Act
  • Evaluate

The Framework for Effective School IAQ Management: Technical Solutions

The Technical Solutions define the most common issues that schools need to address to effectively manage IAQ risks, including:

  • HVAC
  • Moisture and Mold
  • Integrated Pest Management (IPM)
  • Cleaning and Maintenance
  • Materials Selection
  • Source Control

This is a great step for schools to understand the importance of maintaining their indoor air quality. In addition the the adoption of this plan by several schools, AirTek can also provide the proven technology and the manpower to maintain vent and air duct cleanliness across an entire campus to ensure the safest and cleanest exhaust systems and facilities for your students and staff. Remember it is never too late to create any kind of indoor air quality management plan. AirTek can also assist you with air quality management.
