In a previous blog, we talked about why choosing a NADCA certified is the right path to take because when you choose a NADCA certified company, there is added security to your indoor air quality. We have also talked about scams and there is a popular video on Youtube that shows how some companies have scammed several home owners. These air duct cleaning scams have been exposed to the public. However not many property owners know that they are being scammed. So how do you know when to choose the right contractor? While reading a discussion on linked-in these were some tips that were given:

  • Ask for a site visit
  • Request a written quote
  • Ask for references AND credentials, in this case from the HVAC Inspection, Maintenance and Restoration Association, otherwise known as the National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA).
  • Pick a start date that works for you. Don’t be rushed.
  • Before purchasing a coupon, ask if there are restrictions.

The discussion also talks about not to hire on price alone. You may see a coupon being advertised on the internet but the total price will not come up until the company visits the home. Hiring a company whose team of technicians are not certified by NADCA may make the air duct cleaning process difficult because they may not clean and remove particles from a duct work and make the air you breathe worse. A NADCA certified duct-cleaning company would adhere to all the guidelines. According to NADCA, “NADCA standards and certifications are referenced on a regular basis to ensure that HVAC systems are assessed, cleaned, and restored in a safe and efficient manner.” Most importantly do the research that is necessary for you to choose the right company to do the duct work for your property. At AirTek we are a certified member at National Air Duct Cleaning Association and the Indoor Air Quality Association.
